Pixel Privateers is a game where you get to build your own ship, come up with a unique team and sail cosmic seas. You also get to bombard enemy ships and plunder them to gain a loot and equipment. Nevertheless, that is what most of spaceship games offer, don’t you think? Pixel Privateer is however, different! You will not be creating a shape of your own ship, but there are small rooms that you must customize instead. What is more important; you have to focus mainly on tactical combat and strategy in general!
Pixel Privateers is hand down one of the most enchanting and engaging games in the market today. The concept behind the game is pretty much simple yet engaging. It is a lost in space rogue-ish kind of concept purely focused on interplanetary ground missions. The game also deviates from the usual interstellar survival concept and employs a lost showers kind of play.
Note that Pixel Privateers title as well as its appearance suggests cynical faux retromancy. But underneath the games mercenary skin, there is a lot going on. You will be impressed by pixel art in the game. The environment art is simply perfect and attractive. You get the real feeling of sci-fi action as you play.
This is a team based game. You have an open map from which you select away missions from a spaceship. You own the spaceship and get to control everything from inside it. Think of it like your office or control room. It gets better with the fact that as you choose missions, you also manage a quartet of resources. The resources are crucial as they will fund your survival and upgrades.
In every mission, you have to collect a shower of different loots. Much of what you collect may be junk, but collect it anyway because once or twice you will collect something meaningful that will boost your offensive and defensive capabilities. Other loots can change one of your unit’s class. That being said, collecting and looting is one of the most important aspects of Pixel Privateers. A loot can for instance, allow you add off hand items that can turn a medic in your unit into a scout or an engineer.
Note also that the fact that you can change any of your unit’s class is not a major element of play. That is because you will still need to keep each major role filled by someone who can typecast your squad and help you move forward with ease and within a short time. You still enjoy the game because you get to play with almost any new toy you pick. There’s actually a fine touch of Borderlands to the game as you get drops that mix things up primarily for kicks.
You have no choice but to think fast because you cannot equip new findings or go an extra level up until you have survived a mission. You must then head back to your spaceship which will be a carnival of upgrade by the time you get back inside it. Be sure to equip the best goodies to your team. Also, don’t forget to spend ability points so as to improve their aptitude, intelligence, stamina, agility and strength. The icing on the cake is where you get a chance to spend your resources on cloning. You can opt for cloning on cool gear or even members of your team.
You will be immensely impressed with the game’s graphics. Each upgrade you make features colorful contrasts accompanied by mind blowing soundtracks. The recommended specs here if you choose to game on your PC are Core i7-3770k and GeForce GTX 970. Unfortunately for many gamers, you need some good hardware to enjoy everything the game offers when it comes to visual side. Hardware requirements are set pretty high, but keep in mind that the game is still in Early Access, so final requirements should be lowered.
You will enjoy Pixel Privateers the moment you try it. Everything it has to offer seems perfect. Perhaps the only downside would be the grinding part which you may not enjoy at the begging of the game. As you upgrade though, everything gets better. It seems as though this was a deliberate move by the people behind the game. Other than that, the game offers a touch of action and adventure in all other aspects.
